Consultation on Causeway Coast & Glens Parking Strategy

As part of local government reform the N.I. Executive agreed that the ownership of Off Street Car Parks, their management and enforcement should transfer from DRD to Councils on 1st April 2015. On 1st April 2015 local councils also received planning and place making powers, with a major deliverable being the development of Local Development Plans. To inform these plans, the Strategic Planning Policy Statement (SPPS) for Northern Ireland has stipulated that Councils are to formulate parking strategies in order to inform the development of their Local Development Plans.

Why we are consulting

Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (the Act) 1998 requires public authorities designated for the purposes of the Act to comply with two statutory duties.  In accordance with these duties we seek comments on how implementation of the proposed strategy may directly affect persons protected under Section 75 of the Act, namely:

  1. Persons of different religious beliefs,
  2. Persons of different political opinions,
  3. Persons of different racial groups,
  4. Persons of different ages,
  5. Persons of different marital status,
  6. Persons of different sexual orientations,
  7. Persons of different genders,
  8. Persons with or without dependants, and
  9. Persons with a disability.

The objectives for the Causeway Coast & Glens Parking Strategy are as follows:

Ensuring that parking supports economic vitality within the Borough.
Ensuring that parking supports tourism and large events.
Ensuring that parking takes place in appropriate locations and promotes connectivity.
Providing high quality parking and information, ideally through technology.
Providing parking for all types of users

We look forward to this period of consultation to give us an opportunity to listen to your views.
